Love Pinterest- A headboard

I keep double posting things because the text isn't showing up from my phone.

Anyway- I have been looking for an inexpensive headboard for the guestroom and I saw this great idea on Pinterest.

We had these old boards in our garage. They are original to the house. I cleaned them up and moved them in and love it! I have found so many ideas on this website. If you don't have it- check it out.

A Week Off

I was SO excited to get to spend the whole week + in Dallas with Brett because that never happens. But, poor Brett has had too work non stop since I have been here. 3 of the 6 nights I have been in town he has been on call and worked all night and the next day with no rest and then comes home and crashes with no dinner, tooth brushing or anything! I don't know how these guys do it. They are machines.

Anyway, I have been trying to find ways to keep myself busy. I am not used to having this spare time! Not that I'm complaining...

Ok so here is what I have done so far this week.

Organized every cabinet in the house. I ended up re-arranging the entire kitchen and I love it. This is obviously an in progress picture!

I hung another closet rod in this closet and cleaned it up a little.

Now we don't have to take cover every time we open the door!!

Of course I have been cooking up a storm.

I made Tasty Kitchen/PW's Outrageous Garlic Soup which was totally Outrageous! I mean this was so good. I got some italian sausage links, sliced them and cooked them and added them to the soup which I think made it even better. I will make this again, no doubt.

I started going to Yoga. I love it. I went for 5 days in a row, but skipped today. A yoga studio down the street has a special for $10 for 10 days and that is what I am doing. I'll probably join though. The room is about 100 degrees and the classes are an hour and a half but somehow it feels so good. I have a mini panic attack for about the first 5 minutes after I walk in because I feel like I can't breathe, but then I get used to it.

I also cooked these: Pumpkin Creme Pies

Oh my these were good too. I made them too big though. If you make them, do it smaller than what I did because this is a lot to eat.

I can't take total credit for these cute things. Brett helped out a lot. I'm sure that is just what he wanted to do on a night off, but we got to hang out that way!

I made another piece of spray paint artwork with another board from the attic.

Cooked a whole chicken which was awesome. Here is what I did:

Preheat oven to 450.

• Stuff chicken with onion, garlic, fresh rosemary and lemon.
• rub chicken with olive oil and cover with fresh chopped herbs ( I just used Rosemary), garlic powder, sea salt and pepper.
• Throw in any veggies you want around the chicken. I used sweet potatoes, onions, garlic and carrots. Sprinkle a little olive oil and about 1/4 cup water around veggies.
• Cook for 1hr 15 to 1 hr 30 and baste periodically to get this golden brown color.

So moist and yummy.

I also used some funny quotes and some wedding pics to make note cards with some blank cards I had.

We also joined Netflix. The first month is free so I figured I would take advantage of it. I have already watched a few movies and documentaries. Last night we watched "The Sound Of Music". If I have ever see it, I didn't remember, but I loved it. That is one of Brett's favorite movies and he has been trying to get me to watch it since we started dating.

Tonight I made this Risotto. I had never made Risotto before and it was maybe the best PW meal yet. Thankfully Beth was able to come over to enjoy it with me.

I made PW's Risotto and did the shrimp as it was done here and added to it.

This recipe makes enough to feed a small village so it would be great for a dinner party.

(The iPhone just doesn't show the deliciousness of these pics like I want it to. A new camera is my next investment. Any suggestions?)

I actually ended up working here today at the nursing home, which was great. Going to meet a friend and her new baby bump tomorrow for lunch in Waco :)

No plans for Friday, but I'm sure there will be laundry to do by then....!

The good news is Brett has all weekend off! The first in over a month. Not sure what we will do. Maybe Fright Fest at Six Flags? We have season tix but have only gone once....

Canned Art

I have found out that I am a little obsessed with spray paint. No, I don't sniff the stuff- I know that was your first thought (Ryan). I have found that I can make awesome stuff with it in no time!!

So I was a little bored the other day and decided to try to be creative. I had saved this board from the attic when I cleaned it out for insulation. My cousin recently got new furniture and she needed something for her walls to match. I got a roll of wrapping paper that matched her colors, 3 cans of spray paint, a board and went to work.

I cut a strip of wrapping paper and glued it to the board. I then used gold, bronze and brown spray paint to do the rest. I just tilted the board up and sprayed a lot to make them bled together.

This was my inspiration. I found this on the ZGallerie website.

So next time you have an empty wall. Don't go spend tons of money on some piece of art printed in China. Go to your local hardware store and get creative!

Garage Sales and Fall Decor

As I was waking up this morning Brett was coming home from a 30 hour shift of no sleep. Needless to say, he went to sleep...and I went to play!! I hit up several garage sales going on around us and found so many things that I just could not resist!! I then went to The Dollar Tree where "Everything really is a dollar." to get some great fall decor. I just had to share my bargains with everyone!!

2 garlands, 3 crows, bag of 10 big leaves= $6 total.

1 garland, 2 bags of gourds and pumpkins= $3 total. The place mats were a wedding gift made by my great aunt. They are reversible and have a Christmas pattern on the other side!

I went to a garage sale and for some reason felt bad for leaving with nothing. I settled for this basket for $1. (I know Mom, you have TONS of baskets I could have had.)

Since I was in the "fall" mode, I made some pasta with Parmesan Pumpkin Sauce from Williams Sonoma for lunch. Yummy!

So as I am posting this I hear some commotion behind me.

Brett (and Dot) have just woken up and they have spotted the crows. He said she saw them first and jumped up on the table and of course he was encouraging her to "get 'em"!!!!

Don't worry. I don't normally allow my dogs on the table. I just thought this was too funny!!!

I also got some other treasures I just thought I had to have at a garage sale. I'll share those when I figure out where they can go!! ;)

A Little Redecorating

My friend Kari and I were out and about yesterday exploring new places around Dallas on our day off. She was in search of new pillows for her living room and I was just looking for some inspiration to do something different around the house.

I found this great rug at Anthropologie that I couldn't pass up. It was on sale for $29 and had been $298! Even though I had no idea where it would go I just had to have it. I definitely get that from my mom! It was too wide for the bathroom and kitchen so I ended up re-arranging the guest room to make it fit.

Here is the look I ended up with:

The rug is the colorful leafy one.

I had an empty wall that needed something so I pulled out these wall sconces I got a while back and never hung. I found these at Urban Outfitters for $5 each.

I hung some jewelry on them that I thought matched the rest of the room.

I call this room my Grandma Room. The picture is of my Grandma and I also have an old wash stand in there as well. The pearls and black bracelet I hung on these are my Gran Gran's. So now it's got a little touch from both!

Kari has been eyeing some pillows at Pottery Barn so went went to check those out. A few salespeople came over to see what we were doing because we used one of their couches as a model for our pillow arrangements! We had pillows everywhere!

Somehow I ended up getting new living room pillows and she didn't get any. She talked me into it. That's what friends are for right?

Our couches needed them. Even Sassy was thinking it looked a little pitiful. The pillows we had were covered in dog hair that I could not

get off.

I was able to use one of the green pillows from before and used the others to stuff the new covers.

I think they give our living room a new fresh look. The pups obviously approve. I think the deer may even be smiling :)
