The Duck Lease

Brooke and Clark invited us to go to Clark's duck lease with them last Saturday.  It is about an hour from Dallas in a town called Meridian.  We had such a great time swimming, riding around the land, cooking and hanging out together.  The dogs slept for about 3 days after this trip because they were so worn out!
Dot and Sassy's cousin-MAC.  He is a champ hunter and retriever .  He has has been going to training since he was a pup and has some competitions coming up in the next few months.  He actually competes at the same meets as Uncle Jim and Aunt Judy's dogs-small world.

Beautiful Sunset

Cooling off in the water.  Sassy and Dot were swimming around us but didn't get in the pic.

Brett and Ryan's Birthday

Brett and I went to Louisville, KY the weekend of his and Ryan's birthday.  Randi and I had made a plan to surprise Ryan with our visit, but he some how got it out of her so it didn't end up being a surprise.  Ryan turned 30 and Brett turned 29.  They share the same birthday- June 16 which makes them even more of the same person- haha.   They are inseparable when they are together so thank goodness Randi and I love each other too because the boys barely talk to us when they are together haha!
Going out to Jeff Ruby's to celebrate the birthday boys.
Thanks mom and dad for dinner!  It has almost become a tradition that every time we visit Ryan and Randi my parents give us money to take us all out to eat with.  So nice!

So there was one surprise on the trip and it was on us.  Ryan and Randi announced that they were expecting!!  They knew they had to tell us then because Randi and I like to drink lots of wine together and she would not have been able to hide it haha!  We are so excited for baby M arriving in early February.

We also got to see Brett's cousin, Ashley while we were there which was a treat.  We haven't seen her in a few years.  You can't tell in the pic, but she is having a baby in December!

Happy Weekend!

Clayton's license finally came in!
 First patient!!
Our sunflower finally bloomed!
Dot found a cool spot on our walk.  She just plopped down out of nowhere.
Biggest Loser Pancakes

Brett wanted pancakes this morning so I tried out a new recipe- Pinterest of course!
We were surprised that they were so good!  Once you see the ingredients you will understand why we were surprised!   It calls for cottage cheese which I randomly had because I thought I was buying ricotta cheese a few weeks ago.
It is a special treat for us to get to wake up, drink coffee and have breakfast together.  Brett gets up so early during the week and works most weekends so this morning was so nice!  I can't wait for the day when we get to do this every day.

Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

6 egg whites
1 cup rolled oats, dry
1 cup cottage cheese
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

In a blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. Heat a griddle or large non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Spray with non-stick cooking spray. For each pancake pour 1/4 cup of batter onto griddle. Flip when they start to bubble. Cook until golden brown. Repeat with remaining batches, spraying the griddle as needed. Makes about 10 pancakes.

I think your actual wedding day was on a Wednesday too...?  That always makes me laugh when I think about that!
Thanks for being such a great example of how to love each other and loving us so much!

8 years later...

Brett said the other day that he has been waiting for 8 years to start what he finally started on Sunday.  He knew when he started dental school he wanted to go to OMFS residency.  So, after 4 years of dental school, 3 years of med school and 1 year of General Surgery internship he finally started his 5th year of residency on July 1 doing ORAL SURGERY!  So for the last 2 years he will only be doing what he is here for -finally.  He was so excited and I think maybe even an little anxious and nervous.

He packed his bags and was all ready the night before!

He is on call q2 for the first 2 weeks.  That means he will be spending the night at Parkland every other night.  Sunday night he was on Face Call and it was a crazy night.  They cover Children's Hospital, Parkland and St. Paul for any head and neck trauma and dental pain/infections when they are on Face Call.  He had 13 trauma calls and several infections he got paged on during the night.  That is a ton for one night.  So, he got no sleep.  Then he had to work the clinic all day today.  Poor thing came straight home and got in bed.  I can't even wake him up to eat.  He just asked me to set his alarm for the morning.  Thankfully tomorrow he is on Mandible Call which is not usually as busy so hopefully he can sleep some tomorrow night.

We went to the OMFS graduation Friday night.  Last year when I posted about it he was about to start his intern year on General Surgery.  I am SO glad we are done with that.  Some months were pretty bad and I may have blocked a few of them out!  The worst was last September.  He was on night float and was on call every single night and had to sleep there.  Since we were on totally opposite schedules we saw very little of each other- no fun!

So even though those early and long days and nights are not over, at least he is finally doing what he loves and it won't seem as bad!

Here are a few pics at the graduation dinner.
